What is the Disney College Program?
The Disney College Program is a paid internship opportunity where you can work within the different departments of the Disney Parks- Walt Disney World or Disneyland. As of right now, only Florida is currently taking applicants, Disneyland’s Program has yet to reopen enrollment after COVID. Internships last from 4 months to a year depending on each applicant; housing is also provided to those who need it.
Looking to apply? This is how I applied...
The application process was simple. I originally planned on applying in the Spring of 2021 but missed the due date for applications. I put my name on the mailing list for the next enrollment period and once they e-mailed me that it was open again late Summer 2021, I applied.
To apply all I did was log in to the Disney College Program website with my LinkedIn Account. You can just sign up with an e-mail, but I signed up with my LinkedIn because I did not want to have to make up another password. From there, I followed a questionnaire where they asked me questions about myself like name, skills, job experience, and references. It was super nice, because I was connected to my LinkedIn- I was able to transfer my résumé information over from my profile to my application. Once I finished the application, it was a waiting game. Every day, I would check my e-mail for any updates.
About two weeks or so after applying, I got an e-mail from Disney saying I was a strong candidate for the program, but before they could officially accept me, they wanted me to do an interview. The interview was just a questionnaire, that’s online, timed and it’s a link sent via e-mail. I am dyslexic, so I had to ask for special testing accommodations for my interview process. The questions are not hard, but every individual question is timed, if you don’t answer within a certain number of seconds they move on to the next question. If you are like me and struggle with dyslexia, reading comprehension or other learning disabilities I would highly recommend writing Disney College Program Support and alerting them of your situation before taking the questionnaire interview. They were super accommodating and allowed me to take the test without a timer. I really appreciate them for being so understanding and I would hate for someone to be denied an opportunity because of their learning differences. However, it looks like website is now saying they are doing 30-minute phone interviews, which I never had to do for my application process, so I do not know what that entails. No matter what they ask for it’s still a good idea to communicate any accommodations that you may need.
After completing the Interview, I was told I was still a strong candidate for the 2022 Spring program, and my next steps were again to keep checking my e-mail for any follow ups. E-mail checking is a really common theme during the application and pre-arrival process. I kept checking my email until I finally got my acceptance letter in late September 2021. Now, it has been a while since I applied, things could look different now, so I would check out the program’s website to see how they could be doing things at this moment.
